♣ Science joke. HAART stands for Highly Active Anti Retroviral Therapy which is a drug cocktail given to AIDS patients. The ‘HAART’ reference is with respect to the infamous ’I Heart You’ line where the Heart represented by the symbol ♥ has now been “wittily” replaced by HAART *rolls eyes and crawls away”.
What, you mean you suck around long enough to read on? Okay so you deserve to know that Shugoshin is Japanese for Guardian Spirit which is also the name of a protein involved in cell division with the same ‘protection’ role.

Klenow Polymerase is the largest subunit of DNA Polymerase I holoenzyme, also known as the Klenow subunit. It has 3′-5′exonuclease activity in addition to its 5′-3′ antisense strand DNA polymerase activity. The Klenow subunit has also a special ability of displacing the downstream reverse primer. So it synthesizes the new DNA strand starting from the forward primer until it reaches the reverse primer and causes displacement of the reverse primer. It then continues to elongate the DNA strand using the sense 5′-3′ DNA strand as template. Due to its 3′-5′ exonuclease activity, it is also able to resect the overhang it makes at the end of the newly synthesised strand to give a blunt ended PCR product instead of one with a 3′ overhang.
See? That’s what happens when you have a lecturer like Renato MORONa. You get so traumatised by the learning experience that it just sticks with you for life…
